Pay the Ghost movie full length review - Intense but not that original! 3/10

Review: This is one of those everyday supernatural movies about a New York professor of literature, Mike (Nicolas Cage) who has a loving wife and a little son, who goes missing while they are enjoying a carnival on Halloween night.

After splitting up from his wife because she blames him for his disappearance, Mike spends his days putting up posters and visiting the police department who are handling his case, to find out if they have any more clues about his son. Mike and his wife Kristen (Sarah Wayne Callies), are not true believers of the supernatural world but when Mike starts to see and hear his son Charlie (Jack Fulton), he begins a journey into the spirit world along with his wife who has also had visions of her son. As time is drawing closer to Halloween, they manage to get clues from some true believers that may lead to them rescuing Charlie. The only problem is that they only have that night to find him, so they race against time and the many obstacles that are in there way. Although the movie us quite intense throughout, because of the whole "searching for my son" element, it is a very a average film with a disappointing and abrupt ending. The acting is also average from Cage and the rest of the cast and I'm not surprised that it went straight to DVD. There are a couple of moments where you might jump out of your seat but apart from that, it's just another paranormal movie without much substance. Average!

Round-Up: It really seems like Cage has called it a day when it comes to big blockbuster movies. He keeps on taking these small projects which never seem to make it to the big screen and he is slowly becoming a B-List actor, which I never expected from this Oscar winning star. At 51 years old and with a string of disappointing movies, which include Tokarev, Left Behind, Dying of the Light, the Frozen Ground, Joe, Stolen and Drive Angry, his only hope is the National Treasure franchise, which I also didn't think was that great. The third National Treasure is in development at the moment along with Croods 2, where he supplied the voice of Grug. Anyway, this movie was directed by Uli Edel who also made Last Exit in Brooklyn and Body of Evidence with Madonna and he's also made quite a few TV movies which include Tyson Uncaged, Houdini, Rasputin and the Mists of Avalon with Angelica Huston and Joan Allen. This movie also had a made for TV feel, which isn't surprising because of the directors background but I did stick with the film, because I wanted to know what exactly happened to his son. At the end of the day, it's worth a watch if you haven't got anything else to do but I personally wouldn't watch it twice.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their horror/thrillers starring Nicolas Cage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Veronica Ferres and Jack Fulton. 3/10
