Hercules Reborn movie full length review - Fun!

I had a lot of fun watching this. I didn't have my expectations very high at first, on account of the low budget and negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The plot is pretty standard: Bad guy kidnaps the princess, good guys save her and restore peace to the kingdom. The characters were somewhat dull, with little development as the story unfolds, but they were nonetheless fun to follow. The scenery was beautiful and the costumes and sets were great. Sure, you may not find much authenticity in either, but I really don't see how that matters to anyone who isn't an expert. I also have to point out the camera work and video editing. Those were great by Hollywood-standards. The acting was good and believable, although James Duval sometimes overdid it to the point of annoyance. Christina Ulfsparre was remarkably good as the distressed princess. She had to deal with really complicated scenes and she did it perfectly. I was really impressed and I hope to see her in more movies. She definitely has the talent and the looks to appear on bigger screens. Wrestler John Hennigan was great (and HOT!) as the broken Hercules mourning the death of his family by his own hands and later reclaiming his honor. It was refreshing for once to follow a hero rising from the bottom of the heap - a disgusting, penniless drunk - rather than some boring Jon Snow type who just begs the audience for love all the time. In contrast, the character of Christian Oliver was boring despite his very honest acting. Aurelie Chatellier and Jennifer Paul were very good in their small roles. Jeremy Inman was perhaps a bit of a mismatch as an Irishman in the desert. Dylan Vox was a very believable villain and I enjoyed his acting. Marcus Shirock was not intimidating enough, especially with his ridiculous haircut, and looked a little like a pretty boy next to Hennigan's manly Hercules. I would cast a rougher guy for his role. I give it 6 stars on account of the good acting, sets and camera work.
